Ben Platt's "Gracie" is already one of the most popular father-daughter songs out there. Stuart found us at ChangeLyric because the song was perfect for his daughter's wedding — except his daughter's name is Jamie, not Gracie. A single name swap was all it needed to go from a beautiful song to their song.
What Changed
Every instance of "Gracie" became "Jamie." That is the entire modification. "Gracie girl" became "Jamie girl." "Only Gracie knows" became "only Jamie knows." "You're not a baby, Gracie, you're my friend" became "you're not a baby, Jamie, you're my friend." The closing line shifts from "my crazy girl" to "my Jamie girl."
Name swaps like this are deceptively simple. The word needs to match the syllable count and rhythmic feel of the original. "Gracie" and "Jamie" are both two syllables with the stress on the first, so they slot in perfectly. The vocal performance sounds completely natural because the phonetic shape of the replacement barely changes.

Why Name Swaps Work So Well for Weddings
There are hundreds of songs about love, about fatherhood, about watching your child grow up. But none of them say your daughter's name. That is the gap a name swap fills. The moment Ben Platt sings "Jamie girl" instead of "Gracie girl," the song stops being a track on a playlist and becomes something that belongs to that family.
Father-daughter dance songs are one of the most common projects we take on. The formula works because the emotional weight is already built into the original recording. We do not need to change the feeling. We just need to point it at the right person.
