Lisa R. came to ChangeLyric with a fun idea: take "You're The One That I Want," the duet John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John made famous, and turn it into a tribute to a beloved cook she calls Chef Jeff. The new lines were hers. My job was to make them sound like they had always been in the song.
What Changed
The rewrite announces itself in the very first line. "I got chills, they're multiplying" became "Chef Jeff's got skillz, there's no denying," and "the power, you're supplying" became "the flavors he's supplying." In four lines the song stops being a carnival flirtation and becomes an outright kitchen anthem.
The verses keep the pattern. "You better shape up" became "I'd better step up," repeated exactly where the original repeats it. Then the refrain lands the punchlines: "Ho, Chef Jeff, honey," "Food get in my tummy," and "Ho, Skillz is the one I need."
Everything else stayed put. Every other word, beat, and backing vocal sits exactly where the 1978 recording put it, so the whole joke rides on the few lines that changed.

How We Made It
Lisa paid for the order on July 13, 2026, and it was assigned to me that same day with a July 16 deadline. I started work right away. I delivered the finished audio on July 15, two days after payment and a day ahead of the deadline.
I sent two versions out together: a full length master and a trimmed edit, so the tribute works whether someone wants the complete song or a quick cut to send around. No revisions were requested. Lisa accepted the delivery on July 22, and the order closed.
Why It Works
The rewrite works because it matches the original syllable for syllable. "Ho, ho, ho honey" and "Ho, Chef Jeff, honey" land on the same beats, so each punchline rides the momentum the original performance already built. Nothing gets stretched, and nothing gets rushed.
It also sets a joke up and pays it off. "Skillz" appears in the opening line, then returns in the final refrain as "Ho, Skillz is the one I need." And "Food get in my tummy" rhymes exactly where "honey" used to sit, so the biggest laugh arrives on a rhyme the 1978 single already set up.
That is the sweet spot for a comic rewrite: the listener recognizes every note of the Grease recording, and only the words have turned into something about the cook.
