Beauty and the Beast from Disney rewritten as a custom lyric swap for a cousin's birthday

The ballad from Disney's 1991 Beauty and the Beast, the one Mrs. Potts sings while Belle and the Beast take their first dance, is about as protected as a song gets in people's memories. Matthias came to ChangeLyric with the hardest version of the ask: keep the waltz, the pacing, and the warm grandmotherly voice, and replace every single word. The finished track was a birthday gift for his cousin, who is also his best friend of nine years.

The rewrite is built around a running joke between the two of them. At some point the cousin asked Matthias for a certificate, not seriously, just for laughs. The new lyrics answer that request in plain terms: "Since you asked me for a certificate, though not serious, just hilarious, I've taken the bait."

His order notes were modest. He needed a clean vocal track only, no remix, with the dog barking from his source recording removed and the spoken part at the end dropped.

What Changed

Every stanza was rebuilt. "Tale as old as time, true as it can be" became "We've met for nine years, becoming best friends." The fairy tale open gives way to the story of an actual friendship.

The middle stanzas lean all the way into the certificate gag. "This is what I've made, for my precious champ, hope you like the font, the picture in front, even the round stamp" reads like a birthday card that happens to be sung by a teapot.

The closing keeps the original's scaffold but flips its direction. "Certain as the sun, rising in the east" becomes "certain as the sun, setting in the west," and the title hook resolves to a new payoff: "Cousins we're by choice, listen to my voice, our friendship's the best."

We've met for nine years Becoming best friends And cousins second grades I would say soulmates Hope it never ends Since you asked me for A certificate though not serious just hilarious I've taken the bait This is what I've made For my precious champ Hope you like the font The picture in front Even the round stamp Now it's official That you are the best Cousin ever seen Funny joyful keen Knowing you I'm blessed Certain as the sun Setting in the west Cousins we're by choice Listen to my voice Our friendship's the best Cousins we're by choice Listen to my voice Our friendship's the best

I was a bit sceptical what to expect since I changed all the lyrics of the beauty and the beast. But the Change Lyrics team did a fantastic job. Not only that I've gotten a clean music as well as remixed track despite only asking for the vocals but they also did it in 2 days. I'm very happy with the results and can fully recommend the service.

How We Made It

This job fought the automated path the whole way. We ran Overdub in both of its modes and put the song through Horizon as well, and neither could carry a full rewrite of a ballad this delicate. So the vocal was built by hand instead.

Will sang a pilot vocal himself, then converted it with the Voice Changer using a custom model tuned to sound like Mrs. Potts. A smoothing pass through an internal remix tool, one we plan to release to ChangeLyric subscribers, cleaned up the pitchiness. Reverb and de-essing finished it in the DAW, because AI vocals tend to push their s sounds too hard.

The delivery went past the ask. Matthias only needed the clean vocal, but he received the isolated stems and a full remix set against the original instrumental too, inside two days of payment.

Why It Works

Most orders change a handful of lines. This one changed all twenty-eight, and it still sounds like the same song because the scaffolding survived: the waltz pacing, the "certain as the sun" cadence, the repeated closing hook. Rewrite the frame, keep the shape.

Recognition does the heavy lifting on a birthday. The moment the track starts, the cousin knows exactly what song is playing, and by the second line he realizes it is about him, the certificate, and nine years of friendship showing up in a Disney ballad.

Matthias had already tried generic AI tools on his own before ordering, and nothing held up. A full rewrite of a song this familiar is exactly the kind of job where that gap shows, and where a producer who can sing, tune, and mix the vocal by hand earns their fee.
